Behavior Management I believe in promoting good behavior with positive reinforcement and praise. When a child is misbehaving in my care, I will first ask them to stop the offending behavior. If the behavior continues I will redirect them to a new activity. If a child in my care throws a tantrum, I will place them in a safe area and allow the tantrum to continue unless they are causing harm to themselves, others or equipment. When the tantrum is over I will talk to the child and work through their frustration. In the event the child is causing harm, they will be removed and asked to have quiet time to calm themselves down. If poor behavior occurs frequently I will have a meeting with the parents and together we will come up with a plan to help the child with this behavior. If the behavior is consistent, aggressive, or harming others the child will be asked to leave the daycare. I use "time outs" depending on the age and intellect of the child. Basically, I remove the child from the play area and explain to them why they are being removed. Once a reasonable amount of time has passed I talk to the child about why they were removed, why the behavior was wrong and offer them solutions to remedy the situation. Together we work through the problem.
